Privacy & data handling
This page describes how the Rule43 Disclosure website handles personal information. It is an information notice, not a contract and not a certificate of legal compliance.
Who is responsible
Rule43 Disclosure is provided by LG Technologies (Pty) Ltd (company registration number 2024/402692/07; 3 Diadem Close, Cape Town 7441). For privacy questions or requests, email familylaw@mpw.co.za.
Our Information Officer under POPIA is Sebastian, who can be contacted at sebastian@legalgenius.co.za. Please still send privacy requests to familylaw@mpw.co.za so they are logged and handled.
Preparation help, not legal advice
The service helps you prepare a financial disclosure. It does not give legal advice.
Professional practice verification
Professional subscriptions require human review of your role, practice name, professional work contact, public practice website or directory profile, and professional body/registration number where applicable. Mediators need not be LPC registered. Your confirmed account email binds the application to your account. Do not submit identity documents, certificates or confidential client information.
Applications and reviewer decisions are private, available to existing authorised staff for eligibility checking and an audit trail; you can read only your own status. A notification goes to the monitored familylaw@mpw.co.za inbox. There is no public applicant list or automatic approval. Verification is not endorsement, a professional guarantee or legal advice.
We keep only the professional details needed to review eligibility and explain decisions. Pending applications and review evidence are reviewed for continuing necessity when no longer needed; they are not assigned an invented statutory retention period or deleted automatically by the purchase-ledger runner. Contact familylaw@mpw.co.za for correction or removal review. Payment evidence for older forms is retained under the payment policy below; reviewed paid funds do not require another payment.
What stays in your browser
- Your working draft is kept in your browser's local storage on this device. It is not uploaded automatically.
- Drafts are kept per account on a shared browser. Ordinary sign-out keeps the draft on the device; use Sign out and clear draft on this device on your account page, or Clear saved draft in the form, to remove it.
- A draft started while signed out is not tied to any account. If someone then signs in on the same browser, they are asked whether to add it to their account or discard it; it is never added without that choice. Clear the draft before handing over a shared browser.
- Your sign-in session is kept in browser storage. Details are on Cookies & browser storage.
What we store on our servers
- Account: email address, sign-in records, the one active sign-in session record, team membership and invitations.
- Saved matters: only when you choose Save to my account. You can delete a saved matter from your account. Each saved matter has a history log of actions (such as saved, shared, exported) that cannot be edited. Older history entries may include the matter's title. From 28 October 2026, a deletion entry no longer records the title, and closing your account removes the history of your matters.
- Annexures: files you upload are kept in private storage with the saved matter. You can remove them or delete the matter. Removal is queued and retried automatically until storage confirms the file is gone; until then a copy may briefly remain. Older history entries may include the annexure label.
- Other people's information: a disclosure can include details about the other party and their finances. Enter it only where the court form requires it and you are lawfully entitled to provide it (for example, for your own court proceedings or as a professional acting on instructions). We process it only to prepare and store the form you ask for.
- Children's information: include a child's details only with the consent of a competent person (such as a parent or guardian) or where the law permits it without consent, for example to establish or exercise rights or comply with obligations in legal proceedings. This service is for adults (18 or older) preparing their own matter, or professionals acting for a client.
- Special personal information (such as health details) is different: include it only where the form requires it and a lawful basis applies, such as establishing or defending a right in legal proceedings. A general client consent is not treated as sufficient on its own.
- Required and optional information: fields the court form needs are required to produce a complete disclosure; if you leave them out, the form will be incomplete and the court or the other party may ask for it. Everything else, including annexures, saving to an account and feedback, is optional.
- Firm sharing: on Firm plans, a matter is visible to team members only if its owner explicitly shares it, read-only, until made private again.
- PDF downloads: the form is sent to our server to check paid access and build the PDF. The form and PDF are not kept unless you separately saved the matter.
- Purchase and identity references: to enforce the once-off purchase rule we keep an export record: your account, the matter reference, a keyed (non-readable) identity value derived from the applicant's ID number or name, and the purchase link. It is kept even if you delete a matter or your account. Five years after a once-off purchase has expired and was last used, the keyed identity value and matter link are removed automatically, unless current paid access, a legal hold or a payment dispute applies. The payment record itself is kept as described below.
- Payments: handled by PayFast. We never receive card details. We keep PayFast references, amounts, status, subscription token and the notifications PayFast sends, as an audit record.
- Support and professional feedback: your name, email and message are stored privately and emailed to familylaw@mpw.co.za. Feedback is never published automatically.
- Blog questions: the name and comment you post under an article are shown publicly. Don't include personal or case details.
How long we keep it
From 28 October 2026 a daily job deletes or trims records in the categories below once they pass their period. Records created before 28 October 2026 are not touched until 27 November 2026; from that date the same periods apply to them too. Periods: unaccepted team invitations 30 days; old sign-in session records 30 days after the session ends; AI usage counters 90 days; full payment notifications reduced to the minimum references needed to detect duplicate or repeated charges after 90 days; resolved support requests and reviewed feedback 12 months after resolution or review; support requests and feedback still unresolved after 12 months are flagged for review each year so they are not kept indefinitely by oversight; once-off purchase identity values five years after expiry and last use. Payment and accounting records are kept for at least the period the law requires (for example, company and tax record-keeping rules) and longer if a dispute or legal hold applies; they are not deleted automatically. Purchase and export references are minimised after five years as described above. Copies may persist in database backups for a period we have not yet confirmed. Records under a legal hold, or linked to current paid access, are skipped. We do not promise immediate or complete erasure.
The article guide assistant
If you ask the guide assistant a question, your question is sent to an OpenAI model (currently "openai/gpt-6-astra") through our AI gateway provider to produce an answer. Only signed-in users can use it. Our own database keeps usage counts, not your question text, and our infrastructure provider's AI request logging is now switched off for this site. Questions asked before it was switched off may remain in that provider's logs for up to 90 days; they may remain under that provider's retention. You can ask for deletion by emailing familylaw@mpw.co.za, but early erasure cannot be guaranteed. Do not type confidential, personal or case information into the guide. Your disclosure form and financial records are not sent to the guide.
Who processes information for us
- A third-party cloud hosting and infrastructure provider — website hosting, database, sign-in, file storage, cookieless visitor statistics and AI request logging. Its staff and systems may have privileged technical access to stored data to run the service.
- A managed email provider (operated through the same infrastructure provider) — sign-in and support emails.
- An AI gateway provider (operated through the same infrastructure provider), which forwards guide questions to OpenAI — only for guide questions you choose to ask.
- PayFast — payments.
The names of these service providers and our agreements with them are kept in our internal records and can be provided on a lawful request to familylaw@mpw.co.za.
Our database is hosted in Europe (Ireland). File storage, email, AI and payment processing locations have not been confirmed and may be outside South Africa. We make no promise about where AI requests are processed or whether those services may use them for model training.
Tracking
We do not use advertising or third-party tracking tools. Our infrastructure provider records cookieless, aggregate visitor statistics (such as page views and visitor counts) for the site. Fonts are served from this website.
Your rights
You may ask to access, correct or delete your personal information, or object to its processing, by emailing familylaw@mpw.co.za. You can delete saved matters and annexures yourself from your account. You can also close your account from your account page after signing in again. Closing requires cancelling any renewing subscription first, and is paused if an unpaid checkout, Firm members, a payment review or a legal hold needs attention. It removes saved matters, annexures, matter history, invitations, support requests, feedback linked to your email and your profile, then your sign-in. Closing does not cancel PayFast billing. Payment, purchase and export references are kept (with identity values minimised after five years) as described above, and backup copies may persist for a time. If you are unhappy with our response you may complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforegulator.org.za.
